Hundred Word Haibun #1

The usually magical sunset walk feels so flat. Where is the ice cream sundae sky, the sun in its last tangerine blaze? Tonight it is all grey, inside and out. The road towards my house reveals these scattered feathers, a sign of the struggle, lost. I look down and think yes, I need to concede the battle.  The battle is holding things together, going on as normal. Something has changed and even if the mind can rationalise it still the body, with its own intelligence, grieves.

Oh bird ~ how we soared
proud over clouds and sunsets!
Wounded on the ground.
